Our adoption process

Firstly, THANK YOU for considering a rescue animal to join your family. If everyone chose to adopt a pet, it would make such a difference to the overfilled pounds and shelters across NSW.

All our current rescue pets can be viewed at:

How it works

Every rescue organisation has a different adoption process. At SAS, we have developed our method through years of experience with a focus on ensuring every adoption meets the needs of both the pet and the new family.

Enquiry

Please make contact with us regarding the pet you are interested in via our adoption form. Please provide us with as much information as possible about your family, lifestyle, existing pet/s, pet experience, working hours and exercise regime. Your enquiry is then forwarded to the relevant foster carer who will contact you for a chat.

Meet and greet

If you and the pet are a good match, we will organise a meet and greet with the foster carer. If you already have a dog/s, please bring them so you can see how they interact in a neutral space.

Home check

The next step is to organise a home check to ensure our pets are going to a safe and secure home. We are very experienced at spotting potential escape points. If you are feeling uncertain about the compatibility of the pet at this stage, you do not need to proceed with the adoption. We are here to find the best match for you and the pet.

Trial period

SAS offers a two week trial period. We ask you to read and sign a Trial Adoption Agreement, complete a transfer of ownership form, and pay the adoption fee. This fee is fully refundable if the trial is unsuccessful. During the trial period, the foster carer and/or our team are available to help with any โ€œteething issuesโ€ while integrating your new pet into the household.

Final adoption

At any stage during the trial period you can formalise the adoption. We will then submit the change of ownership papers to your Council which transfers your details and your petโ€™s microchip details onto the NSW Companion Animals Registry. All the paperwork we have on your pet will be forwarded to you. Upon request, any medical history can be forwarded to a veterinarian of your choice. Of course, we will be available for ongoing advise and we love hearing updates about our happy rescue pets in their new homes.
